The Tranquil Bedroom

The Tranquil Bedroom

Far too often, we are guilty of not putting enough thought into our bedrooms. We ignore what is probably the most important room in our homes.

The atmosphere we create in the bedroom is extremely important. This is the place we come to relax and recharge at the end of a long day. Your bedroom needs to be a retreat, and offer a feeling of tranquillity.

Follow my tips and your bedroom will become an oasis of serenity.

Remove the Clutter

Clutter creates stress. The bedroom is the most important room in the house, so remove the clutter. A lot of people have trouble sleeping, and while de-cluttering isn’t a miracle cure, it makes any room instantly more relaxing.

Paint

In a bedroom, blues and greens are recommended – as these colours naturally promote tranquillity. Painting is a simple way to make a big impact on your bedroom. It’s relatively inexpensive, and an easy project to tackle on your own.

Lighting

I think we can all agree that lighting sets the mood in any room. Warm, soft lighting makes a space more inviting.

Nature

The serenity of nature offers a needed contrast to the stress of a typically hectic day.  Adding something nature-inspired to your bedroom has a similar effect. This can come from a wooden, rattan or bamboo finish on the furniture, or a picture of in a print.   Better still add a plant or fresh flowers.

Bedding

If you haven’t purchased new bedding in a while, now is the time. Bedding not only changes the look of the room, but the way your bed feels. If you can’t go to the expense of purchasing new bedding, the addition of a couple of carefully selected cushions, or a throw can do the trick.

The bedroom is not an office

In this day and age many people work from home and the temptation to use the bedroom, as an office is common. Neither the desk nor the computer should be in the bedroom. If however you have no other alternative, consider screening the desk off into a corner of the room, leaving the rest of the room for relaxation.

If you don’t feel up to making this transformation alone mini-makeovers are our one of our specialities.
